A visit to the Northern Territory should include a stop at the Alice Springs Desert Park. Here, you’ll find stunning desert habitats to explore. The recreated habitats include desert river, sand and woodlands that are filled with wildlife. The park is both a botanical garden and a wildlife sanctuary, allowing you to see the beautiful wildflowers of the desert while seeing snakes, kangaroos, birds of prey and other desert wildlife up close. The Desert Park helps visitors to learn more about this region of Australia and the life that fills it.
A short 18 kilometres outside of Alice Springs lies Simpsons Gap. This is a spectacular gorge that has a natural pool at its base. You are able to hire a bicycle in Alice Park and cycle to Simpsons Gap along the Simpsons Gap Bike Pass. If you prefer, you can also simply drive there. Being able to take a swim in a gorgeous pool in the middle of the Outback is an experience that you will always remember.
The Larapinta Trail is a 223 km trail that snakes along the MacDonnell Range from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon. Whether you choose to hike the entire distance or a small portion of it, a walk along this trail can give you the opportunity to see spectacular views. There are guided walks that are available so that you can experience the highlights of the trail.
